Missouri Reentry Program
Randy Huffman, shop our VISTA Reentry Specialist, unhealthy was honored on August 17 as he served his last day as an AMERICORPS VISTA volunteer. Randy’s volunteer service with the Community Caring Council began in August 2007. He served the maximum time allowed by the AMERICORPS VISTA program – three years.
During his tenure here, Randy was instrumental in assisting ex-offenders returning to Cape Girardeau to establish a home here. Our Reentry Opportunity Center opened in June 2009 and served a resource to address employment barriers of ex-offenders. As an ex-offender himself, Randy was gifted in assessing and addressing the needs of the individuals seeking help. Randy’s greatest success was seeing clients achieve employment.
Community Caring Council would have liked to continue our Reentry Program and hire Randy as a staff member. However, due to lack of financial resources, that was not possible. Thus, at this time our Reentry Opportunity Center is closed. Anyone needing services or information regarding reentry should visit with MO Probation and Parole Office at 3463 Armstrong Drive in Cape Girardeau (290-5820) or US Probation and Parole Office at 555 Independence Street, Suite 1100 in Cape Girardeau (334-9651).
