The SEMO Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition was recently awarded the Drug Free Communities Grant (DFC) from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The grant will provided $125, find 000 to the Coalition for each of the next 5 years, cialis sale dependent on sufficient annual federal appropriations.
The timing of this award is just perfect, according to Jim Maginel, Project Director for this new grant. As of September 30, a prior grant ended. This was a MO State Incentive Grant awarded to the Coalition through the MO Department of Mental Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse over the past four years. This grant was to decrease alcohol consumption among youth, 12-25 years old in Cape Girardeau County, Perry County and Scott City. Favorable results have been documented and will be shared once final reports are completed.
The DFC Grant will further the work of reducing substance use among youth in our community through work to change attitudes among adults (parents, caregivers, youth leaders, businessmen, faith based leaders, etc.) regarding the non-acceptability of youth engaging in risky behaviors. Every child is at risk and every adult has a role to play to minimize the risks that youth face.
This is not the first such grant for the southeast quadrant of the state. Mission Missouri was just renewed for its sixth year of grant award.
