Thanks to funding from the Cape Girardeau County Senior Citizens’ Tax Board, search treatment the Aging Issues Task Force of the Aging Committee was able to conduct a senior needs assessment of residents 60 years of age and older, sale living in Cape Girardeau County.
Data was collected from November 2009 – March 2010. Results were recently shared with the members of the Senior Citizens’ Tax Board members and will soon be shared at a meeting of the County Commissioners.
A few facts from the survey:
1895 completed surveys were received
32.2% of respondents were ages 60-69.
35.4% of respondents were ages 70-79.
29.2% of respondents were ages 80+.
63.4% of respondents were female.
33.1% of respondents were male.
50.8% live within the city limits of Cape Girardeau.
25.5% live within the city limits of Jackson.
19.4% live outside of both city limits (outlying areas of the county).
88.7% of respondents have lived in Cape Girardeau County for 5 years or more.
