DBSA MEMBERSHIP SERVICES

As a DBSA member you will receive a variety of services including:

  • A global network of nearly 300 chapters and support groups that bring DBSA’s mission and services to local communities and provide a forum for patients and family members to share coping skills and build self-esteem. Many physicians recommend these groups for people who otherwise may feel alone or victimized by their illness.
  • A voice in Washington DC through our affiliation with the National DBSA who advocates to improve availability and quality of health cre, to eliminate discrimination and stigma, and to increase research toward the elimination of these illnesses. This valuable benefit is one of the most important reasons why you should join DBSA. The stronger our membership, the stronger our voice!
  • Free information is mailed to anyone who calls our office at (573) 334-8170, M-TH 9AM - 2PM. The first step a person takes toward finding help for himself/herself or for someone else.
  • A one-year subscription to the Swinging Times, DBSA official newsletter. The newsletter covers research and treatment, chapter activities, consumer awareness, and advocacy.
  • Education programs including May is Mental Health Month, the monthly educational meetings, and National Depression Screening Day every October. These programs are intended to emphasize the importance of symptom recognition, early diagnosis, access to treatment, and support of clients and their families.
  • Helpful board members, some of whom have experienced a depressive illness, are available to offer guidance. Although DBSA does not operate as a crisis hotline or offer medical advice, callers will always find someone to direct them toward the help they need.
  • A lending library containing books, brochures, videos, audio tapes, and other vital information on topics ranging from finding treatment to healthy living to personal accounts of recovery.
