Mission Statement
Our
mission at Horizon Enrichment Center is to provide a safe nurturing
environment for developmentally disabled adults living in or
near Cape Girardeau who are not participating in adult habilitation
or employment situations. This day program will provide
appropriate supervision, exercise, recreation, ongoing educational
or training opportunities, social interaction, and community
involvement in a safe, warm and caring atmosphere.
All About Us!
The
Horizon Enrichment Center
is designed to encourage independence and community interaction
for individuals with special needs who are currently being
cared for at home. By attending the day program, the
participants will learn the basic life skills that they need
in order to attain the goal of independence, (one of the key
goals of this program) while providing them with the opportunity
to access community facilities and events.
History
The
Horizon Enrichment Center began as a parent's dream. In
August of 1998, the program was formally developed to provide
a day program for persons with developmental disabilities in
the Cape Girardeau area. With the help of parents, Southeast
Missouri State University, St. Vincent De Paul Parish
and concerned individuals, this not-for-profit organization
was established.
Certification and Licensure
This
organization is certified by the Missouri Department of Mental
Health and is licensed by the Division of Aging. Funding is
provided for and through a multitude of funding organizations
and with private donations.
